Extanz Volume I: An Epic on Power

‘Extanz Volume I: An Epic on Power’ is a gritty dive into the underworld of dance as well as an invitation to a more holistic and nourishing future for the field. Extanz is an interdisciplinary collaboration between dance, text, New Zealand Sign Language, and sculpture that explores themes around access and power in the performing arts.

This first iteration of an epic in three parts will leave you shaken to the core and wondering if you’ll ever see dance in the same way! And yet, Extanz will also make you fall deeply in awe of the tenacious beings labouring through the dance world, nourishing their love for dance even in the face of ugly, destructive, and problematic power structures. At the core of this work is each performer, and their unyielding love of the form.
