Kahu Kutia

Kahu

Artist bio

Kahu Kutia is a multi-media storyteller hailing from Ngāi Tūhoe. A Wahine reo Māori artist, activist, writer, and producer whose work aims to always uplift unheard stories from te ao Māori.

With, He Kākano Ahau (a two series podcast using youth-focused storytelling, interview, poetry and music to tell a range of stories related to te ao Māori), beautiful Mahi toi (Visual Art), captivating Tuhinga (Creative Fiction), and impressive Mahi Pāpāho (Freelance Work) - Kahu is a talented and multifaceted world builder.

With what seems to be an ancestral work ethic, that reminds me of my own Koro's generation before us, Kahu truly embodies Maramatanga - constantly working to bring about more for Ngai Iwi Māori. Kahu is a spring whose quest for knowledge overflows beyond their tinana and into Te Ao, inspiring not only those around them but, I am sure, generations to come.

Because Kahu is an artist of true calibre, whose work is as generous as it is plentiful, they were one of the first artists I approached in bringing to light this offering for Ngai Iwi Takatāpui.  I am honoured to work alongside you e hoa - and I cannot wait to bring this festival to life with you.
